Case Study Creation

Outlined in this article are the high level steps and information regarding the creation of a case study.

Types of Case Studies

  • Full case study: List the name of the client and get a quote with name/title
  • Anonymous case study: List the industry the client is in (no name) and list the role (no specific title or name)
  • Testimonial: Short quote to include on the website, in an info/sales sheet or in a proposal

How to Make the Ask from the Client

When there are questions or concerns about asking the client to participate in a case study, give the Subject Matter Expert (SME) a high-level overview of the process, time commitment for the client and the consent requirement. Be sure the SME understands the type of case study we are asking the client for.

Time Commitment for the Client

  • 45 minute to 1 hour interview
  • Sign-off of the consent form
  • Approval of the final case study copy

Process

Note: Before starting the case study process, ensure the case study aligns to your strategic goals and has a well-thought out plan of how to use it that creates value.

For a full case study; use the following steps:

  1. Determine the type of case study you are looking to get from the client with marketing lead and SME.
  2. Have the SME ask the client verbally/email if they are interested in doing the case study.
  3. Enter the case study request into Workfront.
  4. Complete content brief / schedule call with internal engagement team to gather information needed for content brief.
  5. Schedule the interview (collaborate with SME as needed).
  6. Work with writer on interview questions.
  7. Approval copy (initial and final).
  8. Format case study.
  9. Send case study consent form to client for final approval (may want to work with SME on this).
  10. Ensure case study is published to the website and shared on social.
